Astronomer and telescope maker Barry Peckham will lead a discussion and telescope viewing exploring the scientific, religious, and cultural significance of Little Compton’s nineteenth-century night sky. Mr. Peckham will highlight its differences from the sky we view today and explain the implications of a truly dark sky, nineteenth-century residents’ need for pre-dawn chores, historic fears of the dark, and past misconceptions concerning comets, meteors and even eclipses. Please dress for the weather and check our website (littlecompton.org) for any weather postponements. Call 401-635-4035 to register.
