Here’s a local’s guide to the best beaches in Little Compton and Tiverton, RI- including a few places only locals know to look.

  1. South Shore Beach (Little Compton, RI)
    Best For: Sand, surf, and scenic views
    This is the main public beach in Little Compton, and it’s well worth a visit. South Shore Beach offers a wide expanse of pebbly sand, gentle waves, and gorgeous views of Goosewing Beach Preserve. In addition, lifeguards, restrooms, and parking are available in summer. It’s a great family-friendly option, but it can get busy on peak weekends with very limited parking, go early
    Tip: Walk east along the shore and you’ll end up at Goosewing Beach – a conservation area with no services but plenty of wild, natural beauty.
  2. Fogland Beach (Tiverton, RI)
    Best For: Windsurfing, sunset views, and coastal walks
    Fogland is a favorite with locals for its rugged shoreline and open views of the Sakonnet River. There are two distinct areas; a family-friendly sandy stretch with calm water, and a rocky launch spot that’s popular with kiteboarders and kayakers. On a warm summer night, the sunsets here are unbeatable.
    Tip: The fog rolls in here often (hence the name), creating dramatic photo ops. There’s also a marsh-side nature walk behind the beach.
  3. Grinnell’s Beach (Tiverton, RI)
    Best For: Kids, calm water, and walkability
    Recently revamped, Grinnell’s Beach is located right next to the Stone Bridge in Tiverton. It features calm, shallow water and a small playground. It’s walkable from several shops and cafes, making it an easy place to spend a couple of low-key hours with kids or a takeout picnic.
    Tip: Head across the street for Coastal Roasters coffee to enjoy at the beach!
  4. Church’s Beach/Seapowet Marsh (Tiverton, RI)
    Best For: Birdwatching, fishing, and true peace and quiet
    Church’s Beach isn’t marked on most maps — it’s a small, pebbly shoreline tucked near Seapowet Marsh. There are no services, just a narrow stretch of beach where locals sometimes fish or walk dogs. The views of the marsh and Sakonnet are stunning, and you’re likely to spot herons, osprey, and maybe even a bald eagle.
    Tip: Pack out everything you bring in – this is a fragile, protected ecosystem.
  5. Taylor’s Lane (Little Compton, RI)
    Best For: Solitude, painting, and coastal inspiration
    Taylor’s Lane ends in a dead-end dirt road with no official parking – and no official beach. But at the very end, you’ll find one of the most peaceful spots on the Little Compton coast. There’s a stone wall, a patch of grass, and views out toward Sakonnet Point. Locals come here to paint, write, or just take a breath.
    Tip: Please respect the neighbors and private property nearby – this spot is more of a scenic lookout than a beach day destination.
  6. Sakonnet Point (Little Compton, RI)
    Best For: Boat watching, sunrise walks, and ocean breeze
    While there’s no official swimming beach here, Sakonnet Point offers a windswept, cinematic view of the sea. You can stroll around the fishing docks, watch sailboats and lobster traps go out, and catch the sunrise over the lighthouse. On a clear day, you’ll see Cuttyhunk and the Elizabeth Islands in the distance.
    Tip: It’s especially beautiful in the early morning – and peaceful even in high summer.

    Lloyd’s Beach is a well-kept secret- and it’s for Little Compton residents and renters only. Located just off the beaten path at the end of a quiet road, this beach is beautifully maintained with soft sand, gentle surf, and plenty of room to spread out without the summer crowds.
    There are not public restrooms or concessions, which helps keep things quiet and clean. On weekday mornings, it’s common to see walkers, shell collectors, and the occasional paddleboarder.

  8. Town Landing (Little Compton, RI)

    Town Landing is a quiet, tucked away spot at the very end of Grange Ave in Little Compton. This small public access point isn’t a swimming beach, but it’s a cherished place for launching a kayak, enjoying a quiet sit on the benches, or watching the tide roll in over the rocky shoreline.
    Locals often stop by for a peaceful moment with a cup of coffee or to catch their breath on a coastal bike ride It’s also a favorite place for photographers and nature lovers who appreciate the simplicity and natural beauty of the Sakonnet coastline.
    Tip: Bring binoculars-this is a great spot for birdwatching, and you might even ctch sight of a seal or two bobbing in the water.
